Youth Case-Study

Girl on couch with her head in her hands

This is the story of Kate. Kate is a High School student who is currently in year 9. Kate has had a rough life. She has been living with her grandma due to tensions at home and she has experienced ongoing mental health issues.

The issue – Before we meet Kate she was scared to seek help. When she was younger she ignored her mental health. She told an adult about what was going on and was told that she was overreacting.

What happened next?
– A few years later Kate attended a Mind Blank workshop. In the workshop she identified that she is not alone.

Help-seeking outcome - Kate was no longer afraid to seek help. She was able to follow the prompts that the Mind Blank facilitator encouraged, and the school was able to connect her with the school welfare team. Kate was later diagnosed with PTSD and was recognised as a trauma survivor. She is now finding it much easier to focus on her general wellbeing and is more consistent with her classwork.
